Andrew
Cannon,
an
eighth-grader
at
Heard
County
Middle
School,
took
home
the
only
Gold
medal for
the
Braves
at
the
2011
West
Georgia
Middle
School
Athletic
Conference
wrestling
finals
Saturday.
The
all
day
event
was
held
at
CentralMiddle
School
in
Carrollton
and
featured
wrestling
teams
from
seven
different
middle
schools.
The
medalfor
Cannon
in
the
175-pound
weight
class
capped
off
an
outstanding
season
in
which
he
went
undefeated
(12-0)
and
pinned
every
single
opponent
with
the
exception
of
the
final
match
where
he
defeated
his
Mt.
Zion
opponent
on
points.
He
finished
3-0
Saturday
and
improved
on
his
third
place
finish
last
year
as
a
seventh-grader.
When
asked
about
his
achievements
this
year
Andrew
stated,
³I
have
been
pretty
successful
in
football,
wrestling,
and
track
the
last
couple
of
years
which
proves
to
me
that
through
Jesus
Christ
all
things
are
possible.´
Cannon
is
a
very
religious
young
man
who
could
be
seen
reading
his
Bible
in
between
his
matches
Saturday.
As
a
team
the
Braves
finished
5th
at
the
meet
edging
out
6th
place
Carrollton
by
just
two
total
points.
The
overall
championship
at
the
tourney
went
to
the
host
team
the
Central
Lions
who
finished
with
an
impressive
299.5
points
which
was
well
ahead
of
the
2nd
place
Bremen
Blue
Devils
who
had
257.5
points.
Rounding
out
the
team
standings
following
Bremen
were
Bay
Springs
Middle
School
in
3rd
(228
pts.),
Mt.
Zion
(205
pts.)
in
4th,
Heard
(143
pts.)
in
5th
,
Carrollton
(141
pts.
)
in
6th,
and
Bowdon
(128
pts.)
at
7th.
Several
other
Braves
wrestlers
also
did
well
individually
at
the
meet.
Matthew
Brown
scored
the
Braves
only
2nd
place
finish
in
the
165-pound
class.
Finishing
in
3rd
place
were
Kinley
Cantrell(120-lbs),
Keagan
Spradlin
(95-lbs),
and
Rad
Brooks
(160-lbs).
DeAndre
Hadley
(275
lbs)
and
Ethan
Hand
(185
lbs)
finished
in
4th
place
in
their
respective
weight
classes.
First
year
coach
Jake
Yates
stated
after
the
meet
that
he
was
proud
of
his
team's
effort
all
year
long.
