PURPOSE/MISSION
The purpose of the counseling program at Heard County Middle School
is to strive to meet the emotional, relational, physical, and
academic needs of every child that enters our doors.
Internet Safety Week
– a week we set aside in August or September to educate/inform
students of the dangers on the internet and how to be safe.
We have various competitions where students can compete for
prizes.
Red Ribbon Week
– a week we set aside in October to educate/inform students about
all categories of alcohol/drugs.
We have various competitions where students can compete for
prizes as well as “dress up” days.
GACollege411/Bridge Law – the link to this website is www.gacollege411.com and your child has his/her password and user name. This program and website are immensely valuable in guiding children into educational and career paths. We begin this program in fall of their 6th grade year and build on it until they register at the end of 8th grade for high school classes and then the high school picks up the program and continues to work with your child.
Bullying – we
set aside a time usually during September each year to
educate/inform students on the seriousness of bullying and all the
different forms bullying can take on such as cyber-bullying.
Conflict Resolution
– we have a “sign-up sheet” in the office for students to sign we
they need to meet individually or in small groups with the counselor
in order to resolve conflicts.
Higher
Learning
College Visitations – these are completed through the National Junior Honor Society.
Online Courses
– new options that we are exploring at this time and will give
information as it becomes available.
